Hampton Roads 5th Annual Queer Film Festival Featuring a Selection of LGBT Films
By Lily Light
The Reel It Out Queer Film Festival, located in Hampton Roads, is back for its 5th year from June 7th through the 10th. Featuring a wide range of LGBTQ films including shorts, classics, feature films, documentaries, and web series, it is the perfect way to kick off Pride Month! All ticket proceeds from the festival, presented by Capital One, benefit the LGBT Life Center.
The LGBT Life Center is dedicated to the LGBTQ community and all people affected by HIV through “improving health and wellness, strengthening families and communities and providing transformative education and advocacy” according to their mission statement. They provide HIV testing, mental health services, transportation, and housing assistance.
Christopher Reybrouck, Chief Development Officer of LGBT Life Center and Reel It Out Film Committee member had this to say about the festival:
We are so excited with this year’s film selections, which feature such a diverse spread of directors and films from all over the world. This year’s theme is OUTrageous, so when choosing films we really tried to think outside of the norm, which lead us to our features along with some amazing shorts. As always, representation was an equally important factor in our selections—we wanted to highlight the perspectives of all types of LGBT folks. This festival is for everyone.
