OneLove Roanoke started out as a mission to provide a tangible reference for LGBT couples seeking wedding vendors in Southwest Virginia and beyond. Our website www.onelove.com provides resources to help couples navigate vendors so that they feel safe and secure without anxiety of discrimination. All of these vendors are excited and ready to embrace same sex couples.

We decided to test the waters with a wedding expo in April 2015, which we felt was met with success. What we noticed was that a lot of couples came in from surrounding areas. We figured that this was in part because Roanoke is often viewed as a more progressive area in the region and is also seen as a potential wedding destination spot thanks to all of our beautiful, LGBT friendly venues.

"I was thrilled to be part of the Roanoke Wedding Network's OneLove wedding show! It gave me the opportunity to stand up and let the LGBT community know that we are thrilled that they can now celebrate their love with a wedding and that we want to be a part of making their dream weddings come true." –Cakes by Lisa

“I was honored to be asked to photograph the first Weddings for Equality event that was held at the Hilton Garden Inn on Sunday, April 19th, 2015! We had an amazing turnout - vendors from around the Roanoke and New River Valley came together to showcase their work.” –April Amodeo Photography

The Roanoke Wedding Network took this endeavor under their wings and together we decided to give a wedding expo another go in November. This event was not attended well, but we have decided to continue our efforts into the website and encourage LGBT couples to attend the Roanoke Wedding Network’s yearly Wedding Crawl by noting vendors that are members on the OneLove directory on the Wedding Crawl’s printed material and having a booth presence.

One thing is for sure, Roanoke’s OneLove vendors are some of the best around and we will continue our efforts to advocate for our LGBT community and do all we can to offer them the very best experience for their wedding.

As a media sponsor of OneLove, bridebook truly enjoyed meeting the LGBT couples who attended OneLove. We want them to know about the amazing local vendors who are excited to help them plan their big day. Each couple that came had quality time with helpful vendors, were able to ask questions, try out food and services, and it was so exciting to hear the screams of joy when the grand prize winner and his fiancée won their wedding bands! We love love, no matter who's getting married, and feel overjoyed when couples include us in the wedding planning process (or in our case, post-wedding day, as they can feature their love stories in our magazine!).
